The staff is very nice. The rooms are ok just a little dated. They are a dog friendly hotel. Great but there were 2 rooms of loud barking dogs on our floor. It would have been nice to be given the option to be on a floor without animals. The hotel was sold out due to several club basketball teams at the hotel. The combo of kids using all public spaces lobby, pool, outside area left no place for my kids.

When visiting Iowa State or a conference at this hotel, this is a great place to stay. It was convenienr and comfortable and has a restaurant in the center. Rooms are clean and comfortable, front desk staff were helpful and friendly. Pretty grounds and lobby too. No complaints!

The rooms are comfortable and the restaurant is good. The customer service is poor. I left something at the hotel and I have made several calls to the housekeeping staff the front office manager and the general manager. I have not received any call back.

As close as you’re going to get to the Iowa State campus, and more unique than the standard chain hotels in town. Nice rooms and nice setting!

Great hotel, nice bar and restaurant on second floor. Bar may not be open that late unless there is a big conference in town. Which may not be a bad thing!

I like the hotel, staff is very friendly and helpful. However i do find the pricing a bit on the higher side. For example the restaurant costs. Room service is almost the same price as 7 pieces of wings to give you an idea

I visited this hotel a couple of months ago and while the lobby looks really nice and upscale the room I stayed in was pretty bad. The room smelled musty and had a faint scent of cigarette smoke, while the air conditioning unit was loud and disturbed my sleep. While this was an okay place to spend the night, it was not what I was expecting based on the pictures from the website. I wish I would have taken pictures of the room while I was there. If you stay here be prepared that the room you see on the website, for a 2 Queen room (which is what I stayed in) may not be the room you receive in reality. It may be that the hotel was/is remodeling their rooms and I received an unmodeled room, but it was not like the picture. On the plus side the front desk staff was really nice and the hotel was easy to find.

The Iowa Stater restaurant had a wonderful brunch with delicious omelets. We showed up with a party of 15 and were accommodated with a short wait time. It is our go to place for brunch. Price is affordable and kids 5 & under are free.

Great location if you are looking for a comfortable stay near the ISU campus. Although the hotel decor feels a little date, the rooms are in great shape, the beds are comfortable, and the staff has seemed responsive in each of my four stays here. Though the hotel can be full when there is a game or a large college event going on, other times it is very quiet, and by searching hotel booking sit s, you might find a great deal.

I attended an event in one of the conference rooms. Despite the hotels run-down exterior, the interior was generally beautiful and clean, except for the gaudy Iowa State University murals along the hallway. I've been to the Iowa Stater before, and it's a OK restaurant. The light desserts served at the event were really good, though. The actual room was set up well, beautiful, and all the equipment worked. I would recommend Gateway for events and conferences.

Stayed as an overnight guest this January for a conference in Ames. Was pleased with the cleanliness of the hotel, as well as the overall ambiance. There were very few outlets in the room, and we had to take the little coffee maker from the desk to the bathroom to find an outlet. While traveling with kids, extra outlets are essential and we had a hard time finding enough for our needs.

prices are reasonable, and close to where I need to go. Lots of parking. Downside is open internet, tiny workout room, restaurant is average at best (some of the time, coffee/juice is set out with breakfast to grab as you wish and other times they aren't so you have to wait for a server.) One morning I sat for breakfast to find no silverware at my table (and no coffee set out). I waited for several minutes as I watched the server go to other tables and completely ignore me. Eventually I got up and moved my stuff to another table with silverware, but still, no recognition and sadly for me, no coffee. I get they aren't paid much, but then just set everything out for people to grab themselves. Also, breakfast is the same everyday, so I hope you like your scrambled eggs with cheese...

There plentiful rooms for staying, and larger rooms for conferences. It is close to Iowa State University and a walking trail is situated around the premises. There is a pool and sauna room as well.

Very happy with this hotel. Rooms are always clean and they have a friendly staff. The wifi is only soon but pretty much every room has an Ethernet port so if you have a wireless router you can bring with you that would help.
