Pilgrims to a sacred site is a fundamental principle in almost all religions. Kaaba, which means a cube in Arabic, is the black square that is located in the middle of the Holy Mosque. The Kaaba has a very elegant design, it’s covered in black and made of silk and cotton. The Kaaba was built by the Prophet Ibrahim peace be upon him. The Kaaba is located in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, one of the holiest places in Islam.
In Islam, Muslims pray five times a day. In all these prayers Muslims heads towards Makkah and Kaaba, this is known as Qibla in Arabic - which is made to have a unified direction in all mosques and countries wherever the person is, and this makes it easier for muslims to know which direction they should pray in.
All Muslims must perform Hajj to the Kaaba once in their lifetime, if they are capable.
When they arrive in Mecca, pilgrims gather in the courtyard of the Sacred Mosque around the Kaaba. They then walk around the Kaaba, hoping to touch or kiss the black stone that lies in the eastern corner of the Kaaba.
