The Generator Hostel was the greatest hostel I stayed at while traveling! friendly staff at the reception desk always willing to help, great selection on the menu and on tap. bar staff were extremely helpful helping to you as select a great Brew from the tap! you have the ability to be able to store your bags in a secure the lockers for an hour or a couple of days. The only downfall that I've noticed in most hostels and budget hotels that is that you get a doona instead of sheets on your bed. this normally wouldn't be a problem but I during the first supposed heatwave in 50 years, a sheet would be a lot better than a doona. overall I recommend this hostel for people who would like to meet people from around the world have a drink on the budget side to be located Centrally to the temple bar region and the city centre of Dublin. Close to the public transport to hop on hop off and to many other great attractions that the city holds.

Price can't really be beat. $17 a night. Groceries right across the street and only a 1 mile walk to O'Connell St. Lobby area is big and very welcoming. That said there were a few negatives. Weirdos in the room. Policy of no outside food in the hostel so that you'll be forced to order from their bar whenever you get hungry. At $15 for fish and chips + a drink. Good luck with that. Rooms are okay but very hot in the summer. Never understood why most of Europe continues to live in discomfort by not having AC in the rooms. But step into the hallway and it's the perfect room temperature!

The location is sketchy as! Junkies everywhere! Didn’t feel safe walking around after dark. On the bright side - the facilities were immaculate!

I strongly suggest not to book here. Poor quality of facilities. When taking a shower water lose pressure and get cooler. In the floor I've gotten there was no man's bathroom, so you have to go to the upper floor. Also the elevator doesn't work properly. It's not really clean at all. I had problems with my stuff: I went out of the room for an hour and let my swimming towel out to get dry alongside with some other things; when I came back the towel went missing. The housekeeping staff went in to clean the room and moved the stuff and in the same gap of time my towel went missing (and it was a swimming black one nothing alike the ones of the hostel). They response about this matter (apparently a guy that thought too much of himself) and I quote:"Your towel just went MIA". But also they have kind of a contract, or agreement, with a web page that offers you promotions that later on the hostel won't take notice of and they happen to blame this web page for it. Bottom line, you end up paying more than you should and in the room they want. I've been in hostels all around New Zealand and this was definitely the worst hostel I've been by far.

Very good for a hostel. The halls circle around..kind of hard to find your room at first. It's in Smithwyck. Wish the directions on getting there were clearer.

I have travelled all around the world in hostels but this was one of the worst experiences I've had. Firstly the place looks cheap but you actually end up spending 3/4 times more than your average stay. There is no place to cook or store food which was the biggest let down of the place. There are cheaper alternatives in Dublin located nearer to centre of Dublin. Near my room there was an odour of dampness, complaints were made to staff by other guests which the staff tried their best. Staff at the bar were very nice. It's a nice place but would not be recommending it to anyone looking to stay more than 2 nights.

Great location, nice vibe, would definitely stay here again but I'd bring my own hairdryer. Stayed in a private room for 3 with an ensuite bathroom which did scald at times. Loads of events and staff are welcoming. It's also next door to the Jameson distillery, check the Generator's website for offers at Jameson, also found it best to book directly through Generator than any other website.

Super big hostel with many international guests. Big Lounge area, good restaurant, nice staff. The rooms are a bit cold furnished. But very clean and modern. Big shower. Comfy beds. I guess it is the most expensive hostel in Dublin. But quite central and it is worth the money.

Super clean hostel with large social area. Rooms are quiet despite the party which often goes on downstairs. Staff are lovely and hostel in a great location. Bathrooms were clean and bedding perfect for the colder weather.

While my friend and I only stayed here one night, it was a great night. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean, and the hostel itself is just very unique and cool. Also it’s hard to beat that price, and the location is ideal.

I stayed here last week for two nights, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great food and drinks, you have to try the Irish breakfast. It was originally part of the Jameson distillery and has neat stone walls (on the other side of which is where the distillery still operates). It is next to a large open area with easy access to shops and dinning as well as bus and tram access including the Hop-on Hop-off tour.

Great standard of hostel. Very modern with a cage and bar on-site. Super friendly staff. Rooms were very hot though found it hard to sleep even with opening the window, not sure if someone just cranked the radiator way to high but that was the only downside.

Having stayed in the Generator Paris and loved it last year; I had high expectations for the Dublin location and was just utterly let down. While the main common areas are outstanding, the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Dirty sheets, clogged shower drains, mold in our room, mold in most of the rooms for the group we we're staying with here. The main complaint which is just mind boggling on how this couldn't be fixed sooner or addressed is the laundry situation. 2 washers, 2 dryers, 1 broken washer, 1 of the dryers burnt some of our friends clothes and the other just didn't dry at all. Also €7 just to do laundry. Overall, good for a quick stay, not so much for 3 or more.

Thin walls, lound music, and an overall dark gloomy atmosphere left me very unhappy with my stay at generator hostel. Music from the downstairs played loudly both nights of my stay, leaving all the occupants of my room awake until the early morning hours. The music ended at 0500 the first night and 0200 the second despite staff promises that the music would end at 0030. The staff was generally unfriendly and the bathrooms are located floors apart from the rooms. The hostel has very dim and unremarkable interior. Location was good but I would highly suggest you look elsewhere in Dublin.

Really liked this place. The hallways were too dark though. And all the curvy hallways are confusing at first. Paid 7 euros to do laundry. Only one washer was working and neither of the dryers were in good shape. One had heat but didn't spin, while the other would spin but had very low heat. Took about 3 hours to dry my clothes. Besides that, everything was great. Location is literally next door to the Jameson experience, an independent movie theater, and a nice grocery store with hot meals.

Pretty good stay overall! Be aware that it’s a hostel and the tenants may not have the same sleep schedule as you. The hostel itself was well kept, bar was great, and rates were favorable.

Very nice hostel, rooms are clean and the beds are setup so you have some privacy. In my case I did have to go to reception to ask wether they could go to the room next to mine to quite down a group of French people who were having a small party in they're room. Security was there very quickly and the noise went down significantly. They have a bar with live music which has a nice informal vibe were you can pick out of different places to lounge.
