Iraq, also officially known as the Republic of Iraq is located along a narrow coastline of the Arabic Gulf with a population of 36 million people who are made up of Muslims, Shias, Sunnis and Kurds. The capital is Baghdad and the region is known as the “Cradle of Civilization”, since it is the birthplace of writing and home to the earliest known civilization, the Sumerians. Despite its recent history of political tensions, historic places to visit are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Great Mosque of Samarra and Ziggurat of Ur.
